Eric Hehs
Eric Hehs has been lugging photo gear through airports and around air bases for Code One since he began working on the magazine in 1989. "Photography has been a hobby for me since high school. I'd rather shoot photos than edit or write, but words pay the bills."
Several of his shots have appeared on covers of Code One. His work has accompanied many of his articles through the years and have appeared in other publications as well. The portraits in "Allied Force Debrief" (October 1999) highlight his preference for black and white photography. "Black and white is classy and more forgiving than color, but aviation subjects usually demand color."
Eric has flown two photo chase flights during his career. One in a T-38 chasing an F-111 over Lake Tahoe area in California and the second in an F-16 chasing another F-16 around the mountains in western Oregon. "Those two rides gave me a real respect for the talent and skills of people who fly fighters for a living and for the professional aerial photographers who can catch the magnificence and beauty of flight while strapped into a tight cockpit and worn down by successive high-g turns. My personal experience is one reason we decided to highlight aviation photographers in a special issue of Code One."
