Mission: The X-30 was conceived by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as a prototype for the proposed National Aerospace Plane (NASP). This X-plane was to be a single-stage-to-orbit, hypersonic transport in one form or another. The X-30 was never built. It was to be powered by a battery of supersonic combustion ramjets (scramjets).
