Tiger meets are no longer the exclusive domain of Europe-based units. The 140th Wing of the Colorado ANG hosted the first official gathering of cat squadrons on this side of the Atlantic this summer. Dubbed Tiger Meet of the Americas, the four-day event attracted units from the active-duty Air Force, ANG, Air Force Reserve, Air Education and Training Command, as well as units from the Canadian and German air forces.
The Cougars of Colorados 120th FS invited eight units featuring a cat in their emblem to four days of air-to-air training and ground-based social events at Buckley AFB near Denver. F-16 units participating included the 134th FS Catamounts from the Vermont ANG, ANG/AFRC Los Tigres from the Test Center of the Arizona ANG, 63rd FS Panthers from Luke AFB in Arizona, and the 79th FS Tigers from Shaw AFB in South Carolina. Canada sent CF-18s from the 410th Squadron Cougars. Germany sent a Tornado and an F-4 from its pilot training operations in Arizona. One of the F-16s from the AATCF carried an AIM-9X air-to-air missile, which generated a lot of interest in the other participating units. The missile also generated several simulated victories in air-to-air engagements.
