S.M.A. Hussaini

Group Captain S.M.A. Hussaini is the official combat artist of the Pakistan Air Force. He is also an artist fellow of the American Association of Aviation Artists. His work appears on a set of Pakistan stamps that commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the Pakistan Air Force. This painting depicts the downing of a Russian Su-25 by a Pakistan F-16 in 1988 over Pakistan territory. The Su-25 was piloted by Alexander Rudskoi, who survived the encounter and was later captured by Pakistani forces. The F-16 was from the 14th Squadron based at PAF Minhas, where the tail of the Su-25 is now displayed in front of the base commander’s building.
