Peter Ring

Painting aviation art is Peter Ring’s way of staying close to aviaiton, conveying its thrill. "It’s also my way of showing what airplanes look like up close and at their best angles," says Ring, a self-educated artist who specializes in commercial and military aircraft. He emphasizes correctness and the value of a photorealistic image. "To each painting, there is always a story or circumstance attached, which may range from the color of an afterburner to the position of a wingflap in mid-maneuver to the way snow would flow through the engines of an MD-11 during a landing on a snowy runway." Night Moves shows an F-16 in afterburner taking off in early evening. This is the only F-16 Ring has painted, though he is currently working on a Thunderbird painting. "I like painting the F-16," Ring says. "The aircraft has some unique curves and I like the vortexes that come off its wings."
