Raptor 4005 Completes First Flight

The new year got off to a flying start for the F-22 Raptor program when double “firsts” were recorded on 5 January. Boeing test pilot Randy Neville made the first flight of Raptor 4005 from Lockheed Martin facilities in Marietta, Georgia. The flight also marked the first time an F-22 equipped with a combat-capable avionics system had been flown. The flight, which lasted nearly an hour, tested the Block 3.0 software. The avionics software provides combat functions, such as radar processing and sensor fusion; electronic warfare and countermeasures; and communication, navigation, and identification.
