10 February: X-35C Completes Cross-Country Flight

The X-35C touched down at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland, completing the first-ever transcontinental flight of a JSF demonstrator aircraft and initiating a series of flight tests that will demonstrate carrier suitability in sea-level conditions. The flight began at Edwards AFB, California. “Today’s arrival of the X-35C at Naval Air Station Patuxent River marks another key milestone for the JSF program and the Department of Defense,” said Navy Capt. Ted Spilman, the government JSF Program Office’s program manager for the X-35. “The first transcontinental flight of a JSF concept demonstration aircraft is a great accomplishment for Lockheed Martin, their program partners, and their numerous suppliers, as well as for Pratt & Whitney.”
