Lee Wins Boramae Bombing Competition

Capt. Lee, Kil Chun was awarded the Top Gun prize at the 2001 Boramae bombing competition in Korea. The competition included 248 pilots from twenty-three squadrons flying F-4, F-5, KF-16, and A-37 aircraft. The aircraft were divided into two groups of those with computer-assisted bombing capability (KF-16 and F-4 aircraft) and those with only direct bombing capability (F-5 and A-37). Lee competed against other KF-16s and F-4s. The F-16s were handicapped by limiting their minimum drop altitude in the medium-altitude bombing event to 10,000 feet, as opposed to 8,000 feet for the F-4 aircraft. Other events included guns against aerial targets, night bombing, LANTIRN (KF-16s only), and loft bombing. In four passes of the medium-altitude bombing event, Lee’s bombs fell ten, fifteen, and seven feet from the bull’s eye. Lee earned a total of 962 out of 1,000 possible points, gaining him the top title.
