F-22 IOT&E Pilot

Capt. Charles Corcoran, an F-15 pilot with the 390th FS at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, has been selected to test the combat effectiveness of the F-22, the Air Force’s new air-superiority fighter. He is one of ten pilots chosen for the assignment at Edwards AFB. “In my mind, it was pure luck,” he said. “I am just happy to be doing what I am doing.”

Corcoran views the F-22 as the best weapon the Air Force can provide its pilots. “The F-22 will allow us to maintain the technical advantage over our adversaries,” he said. “You don’t want to bring a knife to a knife-fight. You want to bring a gun. We don’t want a fair fight. The F-22 will allow us to have the advantage and to deter anyone from challenging us.”
