Tyndall Trains First F/A-22 Pilot

Tyndall Trains First F/A-22 Pilot Maj. Michael Hoepfner recently became the first Tyndall-based pilot to complete his F/A-22 Raptor training at Tyndall AFB, Florida. The assistant director of operations for the 43rd Fighter Squadron, Hoepfner is one of only a handful of Tyndall fighter pilots currently qualified to fly the F/A-22 and the first pilot to qualify in a Tyndall-stationed Raptor. Lt. Col. Jeffrey Harrigian, 43rd Fighter Squadron commander, and Maj. Steven Luczynski, a 43rd FS flight commander, both completed their training at Nellis AFB, Nevada. After the core cadre of seven pilots at Tyndall gets qualified by early spring, three other F-15 pilots are scheduled to arrive at the 43rd for F/A22 training.
