Raptors In The Ring

Raptors In The Ring The 94th Fighter Squadron became the second combat squadron to operate the F-22 Raptor on 3 March. Lt. Col. Dirk Smith, squadron commander, and Maj. Kevin Dolata, squadron assistant director of operations, flew Raptors 04-4062 and 04-4063 from Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia, to their new home at Langley AFB, Virginia. The 94th FS is expected to receive two new F-22s a month through 2006. It is the second oldest fighter unit in the US Air Force, dating back to World War I. The 27th FS at Langley achieved initial operational capability with the F-22 last December. The 71st FS, the 1st Fighter Wing’s third squadron, will remain an F-15 unit.
