Operation Brilliant Ice

Operation Brilliant Ice The Royal Danish Air Force completed its annual resupply missions in Greenland in May. The objective of the missions, called Operation Brilliant Ice, is to transfer 1,000 tons of fuel per season to be used at Station Nord for electricity, heating, and vehicle power. The RDAF carries close to fifteen tons of fuel in the wings and fuselage tanks of its C-130Js on the flight from Thule AB, Greenland, to deliver to Station Nord, 745 miles away. The station is inaccessible by sea in the winter, so all supplies have to be flown in to a small ice-covered dirt strip. The five people assigned to the station represent Danish sovereignty for the area.
