The F-22 Combined Test Force at Edwards AFB, California, conducted the first test of the AIM-120D missile in the F-22’s weapons bay to measure the effect of noise and vibration on the weapon. The 14 April test was conducted as part of the development of the AIM-120D, the latest version of the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, or AMRAAM. This missile test was also a first for the Raptor, as the weapon has not yet been fielded. In the past, existing weapons were integrated into the F-22. The test plan for the missile includes putting the aircraft through a variety of maneuvers, including tests with weapon bay doors open and closed.
