Once More Around The World

Once More Around The World The 21st Airlift Squadron at Travis AFB, California, completed its final operational C-5 mission on 13 March after an eight-day flight around the world. The eleven-member crew flew to Charleston AFB, South Carolina, picked up supplies, and then flew to Balad AB, Iraq. The aircrew proceeded to Hyderabad, India, to pick up two CH-53 helicopters and twenty-six Marines supporting President George Bush's trip to Afghanistan and India. After offloading the Marines at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, the C-5 crew loaded two CH-53s destined for Iraq before returning to Travis. The 21st AS, known as the BEEliners, flew its last C-5 mission, a local area flight, on 31 March. The squadron is converting to the C-17.
