Still Working

Still Working A NASA WB-57F equipped with a Battlefield Airborne Communications Node, or BACN, was used to communicate with the US Joint Forces Command's Rapid Attack Information Dissemination-Execution Relay mobile vehicle, or RAIDER, during a test at MCAS Miramar, California, in February. BACN is a forward battle-edge tactical server that provides realtime information access to situation awareness, surveillance, imagery, and network-management information data for air- and ground-based units, including RAIDER. BACN was used in test evaluations during a joint expeditionary force experiment in April. The two WB-57Fs, the last in service, are based at Ellington Field, Texas. The Martin-built, General Dynamics-modified aircraft have been used for high-altitude research missions since the early 1960s.
