62nd Fighter Squadron PatchF-16 Instructor Pilot Wins Shine Award

Maj. Tod Fingal, an instructor pilot with the 62nd FS at Luke, received the Lt. Col. Anthony C. Shine Award for his proficiency and professionalism. “While the individual gets the award, it reflects upon the squadron, group, and wing,” Fingal said. “Luke gets recognized for its Air Force contribution — producing the world’s finest F-16 pilots.”

Fingal was among the pool of fighter pilots Air Force wide who exemplify similar characteristics of proficiency and professionalism in flying tactical fighter aircraft, while at the same time, being involved in community and civic service. The award is in memory of Col. Shine, who was killed during the Vietnam War twenty-seven years ago. This award was established in 1980 to honor pilots who similarly epitomize sacrifice to duty, country, and family.
