F-16 Folding FalconFolding Falcon Goes On Tour

The first F-16A ever built, the first of eight full-scale development F-16s, accumulated over 600 flight hours in 519 flights in an illustrious career that began in 1976. The aircraft was used in early flying qualities and performance testing and, later, as a test platform for the F101 derivative fighter engine, which became the F110 engine. The latest modification to this F-16 came late last year at a machine shop in Boyd, Texas, where the airframe was turned into “The Air Force Experience,” a portable display for USAF recruitment.

“Nothing replaces seeing a bit of our Air Force first-hand, and that’s what the traveling is all about,” said Brig. Gen. Peter Sutton, commander of the Air Force Recruiting Service. “This display takes a piece of the Air Force to the American public.” Apart from the F-16, the display features flight simulators, a briefing room, and interactive kiosks.
