Pink F-16s Fly At AEDC
Arnold Engineering Development Center and Lockheed Martin recently tested a pressure-sensitive paint technique for measuring aerodynamic loads on a 1/9-scale F-16 wind tunnel model. The technique may eventually replace more expensive and intricate pressure models, which contain hundreds of small tubes that lead to pressure taps distributed across the model’s surface. The pressure-sensitive paint technique uses a special illumination source and a highly sensitive camera to record the surface pressure on the model. AEDC tested the technique by applying the pressure-sensitive paint to an existing F-16 pressure model and compared the results.
