Following two days of four-ship evaluation and trials in dense, advanced threat scenarios, a team from the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, reported that the Air Combat Simulator at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia, was highly representative of actual aircraft performance and was acceptable for use during Initial Operational Test and Evaluation. Based on the team's recommendation, AFOTEC and the Defense Department have formally approved the use of the ACS for IOT&E. The ACS was originally developed as a software laboratory and was later used to test the overall user-friendliness of the Raptor's cockpit before the laboratory's charter was expanded to include evaluating mission effectiveness.
