Buckley ANGB Goes Active

The Air Force unveiled its newest base in ceremonies last October when Buckley ANGB transitioned to an active-duty base in the Air Force Space Command. Officiating the ceremony were F. Whitten Peters, Secretary of the Air Force; Gen. Ed Eberhart, Commander of Air Force Space Command; Bill Owens, Governor of Colorado; and Maj. Gen. Mason C. Whitney, Colorado Adjutant General. The ceremony officially transferred host command responsibility from the 140th Wing of the Colorado ANG to AFSPC’s 821st Space Group, ending the Guard’s forty-year command. The transition was made final with the unveiling of the new name at the front gate — Buckley Air Force Base.
