High-Hour F-16

Personnel at the 416th Flight Test Squadron, F-16 Combined Test Force, and the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB have what they believe is the highest-hour F-16 in the world. F-16B No.78-0088 surpassed the 6,000-hour mark on 5 October 2001 while performing an instructor pilot check ride for the Test Pilot School. In its long career, Aircraft 78-0088 has been used as a Maverick missile tester; as a chase aircraft for the B-1, B-2, C-17, air-launched cruise missiles, and the Global Hawk unmanned reconnaissance vehicle; and as a platform to train pilots in high angle-of-attack flight. The aircraft was also one of many F-16s from Edwards to chase and ferry F-22s on their maiden flights in Georgia and on ferry flights from Georgia to Edwards.
