A crew from the 146th Airlift Wing at Channel Islands ANGS was chosen to return the body of California firefighter Steven Rucker to his home in Santa Rosa, California, on 3 November. Rucker died on 29 October during fires that devastated four Southern California counties, leaving more than twenty people dead, destroying more than 3,500 structures, and burning 743,000 acres. "Carrying a civilian is not a common request, but we were honored to do it," said Col. Steven Friedricks, 146th AW commander and pilot of the C-130.
