Nighthawk In Raptor's Clothing

Nighthawk In Raptor's Clothing It took ten gallons of dark gray paint, five-and-a-half gallons of light gray paint, and three gallons of silicon paint to give one F-117A Nighthawk at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, an F/A-22 Raptor-style makeover in early December. The F-117, a test-coded aircraft nicknamed "The Dragon," was painted gray to evaluate the feasibility of using the F-117 during daylight operations. The jet will be flown with an F/A-22 during upcoming local and deployed tests as part of a Global Strike Task Force exercise. A decision whether to paint other F-117s in the Raptor's gray-on-gray paint scheme will be made after the tests are complete.
