First Balad-Bound C-5

First Balad-Bound C-5 A crew based at Dover AFB, Delaware, flew the first C-5 Galaxy into Balad, Iraq, on 12 November, increasing the Air Force presence at the Army's logistical support area. A fourteen-person crew and approximately twenty-one truckloads of war materiel were on board the aircraft. Because the routes used to convoy cargo on the roads to Balad are dangerous, having fewer Army trucks on the road translates to more American lives saved.
