The first two C-5A Galaxy transports were retired from the Air Force inventory this fall. The first was delivered to Robins AFB, Georgia, on 20 October, where it will enter a four- phase study evaluating the fleet's health and long-term viability. The second aircraft was flown from Travis AFB, California, to the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, on 4 November. The aircraft was dedicated to Charlie Brown, a Lockheed Martin field service representative who spent most of his career working with Galaxys. Known as "Mr. C-5," Brown passed away last fall. Thirteen high-time C-5As are scheduled for retirement in the next year.
