The Department of Defense announced in January that the US101, an American-built variant of AgustaWestland's EH101 multimission helicopter, had been chosen to be the new helicopter for the president of the United States. Lockheed Martin Systems Integration in Owego, New York, will serve as the prime contractor for the helicopter under the $1.7 billion, cost plus award fee contract. More than 200 suppliers, including Bell Helicopter and General Electric, in forty-one states support Team US101. The first US101 ready to transport the president is expected to be available in 2009, with the entire fleet of twenty-three helicopters delivered to MCAS Quantico, Virginia, by 2014.
