The first production C-27J Spartan medium transport was flown for the first time on 15 December from Alenia's facility near Turin, Italy. Alenia test pilots Agostino Frediani and Gianluca Evangelisti performed basic flight maneuvers during the test flight. This aircraft is the first of twelve that will be delivered to the Hellenic Air Force starting in the first quarter of 2005. The Italian Air Force will also receive a dozen Spartans. The C-27J, manufactured by Alenia Aeronautica and Lockheed Martin, is being considered by a range of potential North American, European, and Asian customers and has been evaluated by Australia, Taiwan, Ireland, Portugal, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic.
