More than 120 Airmen from the 322nd Air Expeditionary Group staged out of Kigali, Rwanda, last fall for operations for the African Union. Flights began in late October when a C-130 crew departed Abuja, Nigeria, with approximately forty Nigerian troops and 3,000 pounds of equipment for the El-Fashir airstrip in the Darfur region of Sudan. The operation aimed to help lessen the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, where nearly 50,000 people have been killed and more than 1.5 million have lost their homes in recent months. The 322nd AEG includes active-duty airmen from US Air Forces in Europe units and Reservists from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Georgia.
