F-16 pilots with the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem AB, Germany, began using the Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System last fall. The system provides an electronic interface between the helmet and jet to communicate by putting critical data less than three inches from a pilot's right eye. In a fraction of a second, pilots can locate, track, identify, and lock onto airborne and ground-based targets at longer ranges and safer altitudes, all by simply looking at a target. With their eyes focused outside the cockpit, pilots have greater situational awareness.
