The first on-wing test of the newly mounted engines on the C-5M occurred 21 January at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia. During the test, a major milestone in the C-5 Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program, or RERP, the four General Electric F103 engines were started and run up to full power. The thrust reverser on the number one engine was also deployed. In addition to the more powerful engines, the aircraft also received seventy other modifications to increase reliability during RERP, the second phase of the C-5 modernization effort. All 112 C-5A, C-5B, and C-5C model aircraft in the US Air Force fleet are now expected to receive the C-5M upgrade.
