The US Navy recently awarded the second S-3 Prime Vendor Support, or PVS, contract to Lockheed Martin. The contract calls for four years of fleet engineering support and two years of depot maintenance and material support. If all options are exercised, this contract will run through the decommissioning of the last S-3 squadron in 2009. Through the S-3 PVS program, turnaround time for scheduled aircraft maintenance has been reduced by twenty-five percent, depot level scheduled maintenance costs have been reduced by fifty percent, and aircraft availability has increased by twenty-seven percent. PVS includes scheduled depot level maintenance by a joint government/contractor team at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, as well as engineering, logistics, and other technical support.
