Mountaineer Galaxy

Mountaineer Galaxy The first C-5A for the 167th Airlift Wing, the West Virginia Air National Guard unit at Martinsburg, West Virginia, arrived 10 December 2006. The aircraft (serial number 70-0459) was transferred from Altus AFB, Oklahoma. US Senator Robert Byrd and West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin attended the ceremony. The 167th AW, which previously flew C-130Hs, will be receiving a total of eleven C-5As over the next two years. Martinsburg has also been selected as the isochronal inspection site for the Air National Guard's C-5 aircraft. An average of thirty-three Guard C-5 aircraft will be scheduled for a comprehensive forty-day inspection and maintenance period at the base every 1.5 years.
