The F-35 Lightning II fighter and the P-175 Polecat unmanned aerial vehicle both received 2006 Best of What's New awards from Popular Science, the world's largest science and technology magazine. The stealthy F-35 is a supersonic, multirole, fifth-generation fighter designed to replace a wide range of existing aircraft. It is being developed in three versions. Polecat was developed to better understand the flight dynamics of a tailless high-altitude UAV. Each year, thousands of new products and innovations worldwide are reviewed by the magazine staff with winners chosen in ten categories. To win, a product or technology must exemplify a major step forward in its category.
