944th To Rise Again

944th To Rise Again Air Force Reservists from the 944th Fighter Wing at Luke AFB, Arizona, bid farewell to the wing's last three F-16s on 12 February after almost twenty years of operation. Two of the F-16s will become part of the 64th Aggressor Squadron at Nellis AFB, Nevada, while the third F-16 will be reassigned to the 162nd Fighter Wing at Tucson, Arizona. The 944th FW's 302nd Fighter Squadron, which traces its roots to the Tuskegee Airmen, will be inactivated at Luke AFB. The squadron will return to Air Force Reserve Command service in the near future when it will be stood up as an F-22 Reserve Associate unit at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.
