The first class of F-22 Raptor crew chiefs began training on 29 January at the new Raptor Maintenance Training Facility at Sheppard AFB, Texas. The group included seven airmen new to the Air Force and one cross-trainee from the Virginia Air National Guard. The course features computer-based training and F-22 mockups. Built in 2005, the training facility is an example of the new Air Force training concept in which various maintainer career fields, such as crew chiefs, avionics, munitions, and fuels, are located in one facility that is airframe-specific. Six more crew chief classes are scheduled to begin training before the first class graduates in April.
