A C-5 crew from the 105th Airlift Wing at Newburgh, New York, transported the entire fuselage of a retired C-130E from Quonset Point, Rhode Island, to Stratton ANGB, New York, on 10 September. The fuselage will be used at the Air National Guard Base, located near Schenectady, to train loadmasters, aeromedical evacuation, aerial port, and maintenance technicians. As the 109th Airlift Wing's LC-130H Ski-Herks are regularly deployed to Greenland or Antarctica to support the National Science Foundation, or are in maintenance, the C-130 fuselage will allow ground training to occur anytime. The 143rd Airlift Wing, the Rhode Island Air National Guard unit that donated the C-130E fuselage, now operates C-130Js. Planning for transporting the fuselage took nearly two years.
