Italian Airdrop Tests Complete

The necessary tests to clear Italian Air Force C-130Js for medium-weight, gravity-fall airdrops (up to 2,200 pounds per bundle) were completed in early April. A team from the Air Force Experimental Flight Unit at Pratica di Mare near Rome, the 46th Air Brigade at Pisa AB, where the C-130Js are based, and the Italian Army’s parachute test and study unit conducted the trials. The team carried out drops of up to sixteen bundles for a total weight of 35,320 pounds (over 16,000 kilograms), which is considered an Italian record for a gravity-dropped load.
