Raptor Wins 2001 AIAA Aircraft Design Award

The F-22 program received the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics Aircraft Design Award for 2001. Bob Rearden, F-22 program general manager, accepted the award on behalf of the entire F-22 team in October. The AIAA Aircraft Design Award is presented annually to an individual or team for the conception, definition, or development of an original concept leading to a significant advancement in aircraft design or design technology.

The citation for the award reads: “For leading Team Raptor, which demonstrated excellence by designing the world’s most advanced air dominance fighter representing a significant advance in aircraft design technology.” In addition to the citation, the award consists of an engraved bronze medal. After temporary display at the F-22 System Program Office at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, the medal will go on permanent exhibit in the F-22 Team Program Office in Marietta, Georgia.
