F/A-22 Unit Commander, Pilots Announced

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Harrigian was selected in late August to command the newly reactivated 43rd FS at Tyndall AFB, Florida. The unit, which will become the F/A-22 schoolhouse, will begin training pilots in the Raptor next year. Details, such as manning, the training syllabi, and even the unit patches, have yet to be determined, but an F/A-22 integration team, led by Lt. Col. Leigh Hinkle, has been working for the past two years in laying the foundation for the new unit. Other current 325th FW pilots at Tyndall selected to fly the F/A-22 are Capts. Thomas Shank, Orlando Sanchez, Jr., and Lawrence Spinetta. The 43rd FS was inactivated in 1994 while serving as an air defense unit in Alaska. The squadron dates back to 1917 when it was first organized as the 43rd Aero Squadron at Camp Kelly, Texas.
