Air Tattoo

The Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, England, was host to a large variety of aircraft from all over the world for the 2002 Air Show. More than a dozen F-16s from four air forces attended the six-day event. The Royal Netherlands Air Force solo F-16 flew a spectacular daily routine that was complete with a special paint scheme, smokewinders, and a flare sequence at the end of the display. Capt. Rick Van Der Deldan won the Sir Douglas Bader Trophy for the best individual flying display for his performance in the RNLAF Mid-life Update F-16A. Other daily flying included the Belgian Air Force solo F-16 display, a USAF F-117 demonstration, and a four-ship missing man formation flown by 31st FW F-16s from Aviano AB, Italy. Various Lockheed Martin products part of the massive static display included the F-16, F-117, C-130H/J, C-5, P-3, and a C-27J. RIAT 2002 was billed as the world’s largest military air show with almost 400 aircraft representing the air forces of twenty nations.
