ANG Block 42s Deploy With New Engines

Air National Guard Block 42 F-16s from Ohio, Oklahoma, and Iowa deployed to Turkey in late August for Operation Northern Watch. While these rainbow deployments have become common for Guard and Reserve F-16 units, this particular flight over the Atlantic was powered by new Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 engines—the same engines used in Block 52 F-16s. The new powerplants, which increase thrust in the Block 42 aircraft by more than 5,000 pounds, will significantly improve the combat capability of more than sixty Block 42 F-16s flown by the ANG at units in Toledo, Ohio; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Des Moines, Iowa.
