The Air Force has ordered twenty-one additional Sniper XR advanced targeting pods from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control division in Orlando, where the pod is manufactured. The order, which includes spare parts and training, is worth $28.3 million. Lockheed Martin had a double-header month for its Sniper XR, which is mounted on fighter jets and is used for long-range identification of tactical targets. It also took an order from the Royal Norwegian Air Force for an export version of the system. Lockheed Martin won its first Sniper contract in August 2001. The US Air Force has purchased forty-four Snipers to date. |
