Egypt Celebrates Twenty-Five Years

The Egyptian Air Force commemorated the arrival of the first F-16s in Egypt and the beginning of the Peace Vector Program. The ceremony, which took place at An-Shas Air Base last March, began with the reenactment of the arrival of the first four F-16s in Egypt on 27 March 1982. The same four aircraft, F-16 numbers 9301, 9302, 9303, and 9304, were used in the reenactment. The aircraft taxied and shut down in front of the reviewing stand before approximately 200 attending guests. Following acceptance of the aircraft, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Rashid, Air Vice Marshal of the Egyptian Air Force, presented flying achievement awards to two Egyptian pilots. The awards recognized reaching 2,000 hours of flying time in the F-16. Two additional pilots received similar awards for reaching 1,000 hours of flying time in the F-16. Maj. Gen. Robert Wilson then addressed the gathering on the importance of the Peace Vector to maintaining peace in the region: “I would like to remind everyone that what began twenty years ago, out of the ashes of war, continues to thrive today due to the commitment of outstanding Egyptian and American service men and women.”
