The first Portuguese F-16 to undergo a Mid-Life Update was rolled out on 26 June in ceremonies in Lisbon. The ceremony took place at the Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal, S.A., or OGMA, facility, where extensive work on the Portuguese F-16s is being conducted. This is the first of twenty F-16s, sixteen single-seat A models and four two-seat B models, that will be retrofitted. The aircraft originally were transferred from US Air Force inventory in 1999 before being placed into work at OGMA. The new program is designated Peace Atlantis II, following 1994s Peace Atlantis I in which Portugal acquired twenty new F-16A/Bs. Those fighters will also receive MLU improvements. The Peace Atlantis II program includes aircraft shipment, modification kits, logistics support, and training. |
