When NASA received three SR-71s from the Air Force in 1990, Bohn-Meyer's expertise and F-104 experience made her an easy choice for one of two flight engineer slots for the aircraft. She has the distinction of being the first female crew member of NASA or the Air Force (and one of only two women) to fly in the triple-sonic SR-71.
"When I showed up at Reese AFB, Texas, in 1981 with the desire to be a T-38 instructor pilot, I didn't realize that Reese didn't have any female T-38 instructor pilots. By the time I applied for test pilot school, I was surprised that a woman pilot had never attended."
"No one has ever built an operational supersonic STOVL strike fighter. We have to develop a propulsion system and fully integrate it in the airplane. Then we have to go fly it. We have to negotiate milestones and stick to them. We have to mitigate risks. These are not easy tasks."
