Retirement of the MC-130P Combat Shadow Special Operations tanker began with US Air Force aircrews from the 17th Special Operations Squadron at Kadena AB, Japan, making a final four-ship formation flight on 16 October 2014. The MC-130P began its Special Operations career in the mid-1980s. Pacific-based MC-130P crews have supported more than a dozen named operations, including combat flights in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom and humanitarian assistance operations across Asia. The last group of Combat Shadows in the Pacific will be retired to the Boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, in late October 2014. The final MC-130P in the Pacific is scheduled to retire in April 2015. The final Air Force MC-130P is scheduled for retirement in May 2015.
