Lockheed Martin announced on 20 July 2015 that it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire military and civilian helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft for $9 billion, effectively reduced to approximately $7.1 billion, after taking into account tax benefits. If approved, the sale is expected to close by late fourth quarter 2015 or early first quarter 2016. Sikorsky, based in Stratford, Connecticut, will be aligned under the Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training business segment and will be called Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company. Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky currently partner on a number of critical programs, including the VH-92 Presidential helicopter, the US Air Force’s new HH-60W combat rescue helicopter, and the MH-60R/S Seahawk programs for the US Navy and allied nations.
