The second Geosynchronous Earth Orbit, or GEO-2, Space Based Infrared System spacecraft was successfully delivered to Cape Canaveral AFS, Florida, on 11 January 2013, by a C-5B crew from the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis AFB, California. The multi-ton satellite was first transported by road from the Lockheed Martin facility in Sunnyvale, California, to nearby Moffett Federal Air Field, where it was loaded on the C-5. GEO-2 is scheduled for launch in March 2013 aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V booster. Featuring a mix of satellites in geosynchronous orbit, hosted payloads in highly elliptical earth orbit, and ground hardware and software, the SBIRS program is provides improved missile warning and battlespace awareness capabilities for the United States.
