Flood Forces Move

After severe flooding in the US Midwest, the 139th Airlift Wing, the Missouri Air National Guard unit at St. Joseph, began flying and operating its C-130Hs out of Kansas City International Airport as a precaution in early July. At first, the aircraft were parked at the former TWA overhaul hangar at night and aircrews would fly the forty miles back to Rosecrans Airport in St. Joseph during the day. However, once the Missouri River, which runs close to the base, reached more than eleven feet above flood stage, the wing made the decision to fully deploy the wing to Kansas City International and conduct all aircraft operations and maintenance there. As of 26 July, the unit was still operating from its deployed location.
