US Airmen from the 36th Wing at Andersen AFB, Guam, flying with a C-130H crew from the 374th Airlift Wing at Yokota AB, Japan, airdropped Christmas—and some medical supplies—to more than fifty Micronesian Islands during flights from 12-16 December 2011. These sorties were in support of the longest running Air Force humanitarian mission, Operation Christmas Drop, which was started in 1952. For the fifty-ninth year in a row, children in some of the most remote parts of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands chain received presents on pallets from the back of a C-130. Operation Christmas Drop is funded by a non-profit, volunteer organization at Andersen. To date, more than 800,000 pounds of goods have been airdropped.
